With the Super Bowl-Valentine’s Day double feature coming up this Sunday and Monday, it’s only fitting that we suggest some double-duty recipes (good for either occasion!), starting with double chocolate, of course. I have no doubt that you could make Double Chocolate Brownie Pudding Cake for your Valentine, your Super Bowl fans or your favorite postal worker – anyone, really – and they’d be forever in your sway.

The recipe from Abby Dodge is an update of a favorite childhood dessert; maybe you remember these magical cakes that separate into two layers as they bake? The cake rises to the top while the pudding forms on the bottom. Eaten warm (not hot!), the two-textured dessert is true comfort. Read Baking Together #21 for Abby’s tips and tweaks.

I realize some of you might prefer a snacky kind of chocolate dessert this weekend: Double (yes Double) Chocolate Cream Cheese Fudge Brownies or Pie Plate Chocolate Chippers would fit the bill.

Want something a little fancier? Go with Red Velvet Cake with Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting, or the eternally popular Ultimate Flourless Chocolate Cake.

Super Bowl Sunday cooks fall into two camps – those who need to be glued to the TV and those (like me) who flit back and forth between the game and the kitchen. If you’re the former, plan to make a baked pasta ahead for supper. Either Baked Pasta with Roasted Eggplant, Tomato Cream and Parmigiano or Baked Penne with Roasted Squash, Caramelized Onions and Ricotta would work.

Or if you’re happy to hang in the kitchen (except for during the commercials and the fourth quarter!), the Super Bowl is a great excuse to make Homemade Pizza with Vineyard Toppings.

Family can pop in and out to assemble their own pizzas or to grab a slice. Make your own food-processor pizza dough or pick up dough from Grey Barn Sunday morning. Check out a list of fellow Islanders' favorite topping combos here.

For the grazers? I recommend all things dippable: Japanese Vegetable Pancakes with Brussels Sprouts and Kimchi, Buffalo Cauliflower, Chinese Dumplings, Fried Calamari.

Football and Hallmark holidays aside, you can still eat well this weekend by trying new recipes we have from Bryant Terry’s Black Food: Stories, Art & Recipes from Across the African Diaspora. Mix a batch of Bryant’s Pili Pili Oil for drizzling over roasted vegetables or fish. Or make Kia Damon’s Sweet Potato Grits and top with a handful of sautéed local bay scallops and a bit of crumbled bacon. And save this one for summer (or just pretend it's summer!): Rum Raisin Plantains Foster with Vegan Coco Mango Ice Cream.
