Sengekontacket’s shoreline includes three nature preserves (Felix Neck, Caroline Tuthill, and Pecoy Point), the Farm Neck golf course, and Joseph A. Sylvia State Beach. The Lagoon has the old Cottage City Water Works at its head, Vineyard Haven harbor and Eastville Beach at its terminus, and 583 acres of calm water in between.

Best Fishing Spot (tie): Menemsha and Wasque

Menemsha, nestled in a curve of the north shore, offers calm fishing from the jetties. Wasque, at the southeast tip of Chappaquiddick, takes the full brunt of the Atlantic waves, rewarding anglers with striped bass and bluefish. (Wasque, from land, may be closed this summer due to extensive erosion; call the Trustees of Reservations at 508-627-7689 for info.) The runner-up this year exemplifies many a fisherman’s philosophy of keeping their favorite spots to themselves.
