A fine example of nineteenth-century Camp Ground architecture, the home at 16 Atlantic Avenue in Oak Bluffs, which recently sold for $2,450,000, has stood the test of time. Built in 1868 for the Rev. C. Payne of Philadelphia, it sat in the Wesleyan Grove Camp Ground. After Joseph Spinney purchased it, he bought a nearby cottage and joined the two together with a tower in 1875. Around 1889, Spinney moved his double cottage to the Highlands section of East Chop, where it remains today. 

In addition to a 1,785-square-foot main residence with five bedrooms and one-and-a-half baths, there is also a 792-square-foot, one-bedroom, one-bathroom guest house built in 2021. It’s the definition of classic Vineyard living: rich in character, charm, and history.
