If You Had $3,925,000…

When the new owners purchased their 3,954-square-foot home at 966 Main Street, they bought a piece of history. But exactly how much history they bought is up for debate. Some documents date its construction to 1728; others indicate 1698. First sited near the harbor, the home survived the Great Fire of 1883 and was moved to its present location on West Chop in 1922. The residence is often called the Great House or Abraham Chase House, after the first owner. Chase ran it as an inn until his death in 1764, at which point it became a private home. In the 261 years since, each owner has left a mark. Today, the home features eight bedrooms, four-and-a-half baths, plenty of historic details and modern amenities, and views of Vineyard Sound.
