Every house has a story, but some houses are more storied than most. Take the 1830s Federal-style home located at 62 South Water Street in Edgartown. Island legend has it that the home was once located on Chappaquiddick and relocated to the “mainland” after being floated “across ice in the harbor.”
Once settled in its new location, it gained a rear addition, lost a front porch, and gained another addition to the west. Now, a new chapter is being written. In May, it sold for $4,500,000.
The corner-lot property, located two doors down from the Federated Church, features 2,807-square-feet of living space, 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, and parking for two cars. It could use another front porch to replace the one that was lost. Then again, maybe the new owners could float one over from Chappy instead.
