Recently, residents of two towns considered the sales of beer and wine in restaurants, stirring much debate on the
Island at large. Edgartown and Oak Bluffs have been the only towns where you could order a merlot or a Michelob with a meal. This spring, Tisbury and Aquinnah put the question to voters. Here are the results:
Tisbury on April 15:
690 for – 690 against
Tisbury recount on May 2:
692 against – 690 for
Aquinnah on May 13:
126 for – 63 against
The Aquinnah vote was limited to restaurants with indoor seating for fifteen or more patrons; the two restaurants that qualify are the Aquinnah Shop restaurant and the Outermost Inn. As has been tradition, patrons can still bring their own beer and wine to Tisbury restaurants (and, of course, to Chilmark and West Tisbury restaurants).
