From 1931 to 1937, Jackson Pollock returned each summer to the Chilmark home of his mentor, the Regionalist painter Thomas Hart Benton. His teachings and the rhythms of Martha’s Vineyard helped shape Pollock’s artistic vision – and, eventually, the course of American art.
